Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said that President Vladimir Zelensky should return to negotiations with the United States with gratitude, or someone else should lead the country to it.

“Something has to change. Either he has to come to his senses and come back thankfully, or someone else has to lead the country to that. It's up to the Ukrainians to decide what to do. President Trump is trying to bring these two sides to a point of peace. What President Zelensky did at the White House actually signaled to us that he's not ready to do that yet, and I think that's a big disappointment,” Johnson said, adding that Trump is trying to reconcile the two sides.

He emphasized that Trump has made it very clear that if Zelensky is ready for peace, then we can negotiate a deal, according to NBC News.

He backed the president and vice president, saying that Zelensky was shouting and interrupting his interlocutor instead of expressing gratitude for the extraordinary assistance the USA has provided to his country.

Johnson argues that security guarantees are integral to the mining rights agreement, stating, “This mining rights agreement is a win, a win for everyone. It will give us access to the rare earth minerals we need and it will provide some level of security for Ukraine.”

Asked whether Putin was the winner of the tense exchange in the Oval Office, Johnson said: “No, he was not.”
