US Vice President J.D. Vance said that if there is a real offer from President Vladimir Zelensky and if Ukraine is ready to get involved - the door is open.

“He has demonstrated a clear unwillingness to engage in a peace process that President Trump says is the policy of the American people and their president,” he said.

Asked if Zelensky could return to the White House if he said he was willing to discuss a peace plan, Vance said that if Zelensky got serious about the details, the U.S. would be willing to talk again, Ukrainska Pravda reported.

“I think if he called and had a serious proposal as to how he was going to engage in the process. Look, there are details that really matter that we're already working on with the Russians. We've talked to some of our allies, he needs to get seriously involved in discussing the details. If there's a real proposal, if he's willing to engage in the process. We're already working with the Russians and allies on the details. If Ukraine is ready to engage, the door is open. If you want real security guarantees to make sure that Vladimir Putin never invades Ukraine again, the best way is to ensure that Americans have an economic stake in Ukraine's future,” he said.

Vance noted that the Trump administration's position is clear: the U.S. cannot and will not indefinitely fund the war in Ukraine.

“European leaders are actually hurting Ukraine. Their peoples don't want endless funding for the war either. Nor do the Americans want it. The only interest that is in line with both the US, Europe and Ukraine is the end of this war. Zelensky goes to Europe, where he is being puffed up as a symbol of freedom and pushed to go to war further. But to fight further with what? For whose money, whose ammunition and whose lives?” he said.

Vance said he is not sure if the Russians are ready for a compromise, but it has to be tested and negotiations are the only way to find out.
