Deputy commander stole night vision devices for 4 million hryvnias

In Dnipropetrovsk region, GBI officers detained the deputy commander of a military unit.

The deputy commander, who was responsible for logistics in the unit, decided to embezzle expensive equipment. The documentation prepared by him stated that 24 night vision devices were lost in combat conditions. The cost of the equipment reaches almost 4 million hryvnias, the GBI reports.

He ordered his subordinates to hide the property in a pile of garbage in one of the warehouses.

During searches at the places of deployment of the military unit, in particular in its warehouses, and residence of the defendant, law enforcers seized material evidence of illegal activities.

He is suspected of misappropriation of other military property by a serviceman, committed by a military official with abuse of office, causing substantial damage, committed under martial law.

The court elected a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the alternative of bail in the amount of 7.7 million hryvnias.

As part of the pre-trial investigation, the involvement of other military officers, including the command of the unit, in the crime is being checked. Also initiated a command investigation and inventory of military property in the unit.
